Practices can begin today!

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

This week marks the beginning of practices if teams have release forms and fees turned in.  A report should have been sent to all coaches showing the status of their teams.

Also, a COVID-19 monitoring form has been added to the Coach Resource section.  It can be downloaded using the icon below.  These can be mailed to “league at gtbl dot org” but please contact a board member ASAP if there is a confirmed case/exposure.

Have fun and stay safe!

2021 Season Update

Happy New Year everyone!

Summary of important dates:
January 7 @ 8-9pm: contactless turn-in and equipment pickup.
January 14 @ 7pm: coaches meeting
January 18: Practices may begin
Beginning of March: planned start to regular season

We hope everyone has had a happy and safe holiday.  The 2021 season is still happening.  As you can imagine, it will look much different than most years.

As previously communicated to coaches, we are going to have a contactless turn-in available this Thursday, January 7th at the Bowsher parking lot from 8-9pm.  We ask you please have your rosters and release forms organized and that any money is a single cashier’s check or money order if possible.  Everything should be in a single large envelope.  Crutch tips, brooms and broomballs will be available as well.

We have several teams using the Cheddar Up online payment method!  Thank you for spreading the word on this.  It has been very popular and we plan to keep this going forward.  Pictures of signed release forms can be emailed to “league at gtbl dot org” (spelled out to reduce spam).  We will send a summary to all coaches after turn-in that shows the payment and release form status of their rosters.

Practices may start on January 18th but only for paid players with a signed release form.

The regular season is planned to start in March and a coaches meeting will be held Thursday January 14th at 8pm to review some guidelines and answer any questions.

We look forward to making this a great season!

2021 Season Turn-in Postponed

With the Lucas County Health Department issuing a stay at home advisory until December 17th and the orders that followed regarding mandatory remote learning for students, the league’s turn-in date will be postponed until a later date.

We will reevaluate the environment leading up to December 17th.

Practices are not permitted to start December 1st.  The practice start date will still follow the TBA turn-in date.

More updates to come.

Postponement of Season

Coaches,

It is with great disappointment that we will be postponing the current GTBL Broomball season. There are many unanswered questions with so many things other than just broomball. With the safety and welfare of players and their families we need to take this time to do our part in taking the preventive measures necessary in slowing the spread of this virus.

What we know now:

  • Last games of the 2020 season WILL BE postponed until further notice.
  • A restart/rescheduling of games is unknown at this time but being planned for the future.
  • The 2020 tournament @Huntington Center, Final 4 and All*Star Game are also postponed until further notice.
  • The banquet is CANCELED.
  • All Star voting WILL NOT take place on March 22.

The GTBL Board has a great appreciation for the amount of time each and every one puts into the this league to make it what it is today. This is an amazing league made up of a great number of volunteers working toward one common goal. It is our goal to finish this season with a small delay in the final games, with as little disruption as possible.

Brad Mauk
League Manager

[Edited to cancel All Star voting on March 22]

Reminder: League Pictures are Feb 28/29

Players and coaches: pictures are the night of Feb 28/29 games.  Picture forms will be provided to coaches the nights of Feb 21 and 22 to be handed out to all players.  If you are unable to pickup your form at games, it can also be downloaded in the Resources / Players section of this website.

It is very important to have your envelopes and forms filled out prior to pictures next week to ensure everything runs smoothly.  PLEASE be sure to verify your name is correct on the photographer tag given to you.  Players are expected to be ready to have their pictures taken 45 minutes before their first game.  This means all prep completed and standing in line at that time.

Dates and Info for Try-It, Next Meeting and Walleye Tickets

New Players (and those interested in playing):
The league’s next Try-It night will be this Tuesday, December 3rd at Glendale Feilbach Elementary.  The time is from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.  This is for new/interested players, will go over the basics of broomball, and give some background about our season.  Board members will be available to answer parent questions as well.  Returning players can attend if bringing someone who would like to check it out.  The address is 2317 Cass Rd in Toledo.

Coaches:
The next league meeting is Tuesday January 14th at Bowsher High School.  Start time is 7pm.  Please remember that no girls should be practicing without a signed release form turned in to a board member.  You can continue to add players or make changes to your roster up until your first game.

Everyone:
The league is selling Walleye tickets again this year.  This is our way into the Huntington Center for tournaments.  Each team must sell at least 10 tickets to enter the playoffs.  Cost is $15 (there is no markup) and this is several dollars less than gate price.  Contact Yamile or any board member if you still need tickets.
